Thank you for taking the opportunity to visit this site. This site will introduce you to the various components
of Aikido of Suenaka-ha Ashland. We are located just 15 miles north of Richmond, Virginia in heart of
Ashland, Virginia.
We are one of two dojos in the metro Richmond area sanctioned by Roy Y. Suenaka to trained in this style
of Aikido. Please visit Aikido of Suenaka-Ha Richmond headed by Sensei Joe McClure located south of
Richmond, Va in the Chesterfield area.
At Aikido of Suenaka-Ha Ashland everyone is welcomed. There is no judgment of a person's physical
abilities. Aikido is a martial art that adapts to one's physical condition which is why a top quality athlete or
someone with a physical limitation can study this style of self defense. In this dojo mutual respect for
each other is first and foremost. We also provide a safe, highly supportive, joyous and harmonious place
to practice. What is needed to study Aikido is to decide and commit, have a sincere attitude to learn, grow
and enjoy having fun.
Aikido of Suenaka-ha Ashland provides several opportunities to study directly with Roy Suenaka, Soke.
The affiliated dojos come together at Summer camp, the Annual Hombu Seminar in Charleston, SC or
participate at seminars held at various affiliated dojo location throughout the year. Of course you are
always welcome to drop in at Hombu (the headquarters dojo), or any affiliated dojo. As a member of the
Ashland or Richmond dojo you can workout at other location free of charge.
Because we practice in this community it is very important to the Ashland dojo to be in service to the
community by sponsoring community service events such as our yearly blanket and sock drive for the
homeless. Each year during the month of February we sponsor a food drive for the Central Virginia Food
Bank. Every April we have some sort of project to celebrate Earth Day. It is our goal to constantly
developing projects that will support our community. We also take any opportunity to celebrate special
events of the members of the dojo.
So after viewing this site and you have more questions please feel free to contact us or better yet stop by,
take off your shoes and try out a class. The first one is on the house.
Sincerely
Shihan Jerome
